Stock Photos of Belgian Blue Cattle
Stock photos of Belgian Blue cattle. The Belgian Blue or Belgian White-blue is large breed with very heavy "double" muscling. The breed originated in Belgium in the 19th century through crossing pied Durham shorthorn cattle with heavily muscled Charolais stock. Recognised stud books were established in the early 20th century and by the 1980s the breed was spreading far afield from its Belgian homeland, entering the genetics of Australian and New Zealand, as well as British cattle primarily to provide terminal sires that could produce fast developing crossbreed calves for veal. The colouration is variable, ranging from almost Holstein Friesian black and white patches through all degrees of blue-black mottling to overall white or cream.
